It is easy to see that the way we use Facebook has changed quite a bit over the years, these days I find myself scrolling through endless amounts of advertisement, memes, and pointless videos. This now looks as though it will change as a result of Facebooks major updates rolling out throughout this year. These changes are designed to ‘help bring people together’ and make the time you spend on Facebook more valuable.
As these changes start rolling out, you will see less content from brands, businesses and media. Instead Facebook will prioritise content it considers ‘meaningful’, focusing on person to person interactions between friends and families.
Unfortunately this doesn’t look great for business, especially those who rely on Facebook to receive organic traffic from their posts. However, Facebook will still allow users to decide which content appears at the top pf your news feed via their ‘see first’ feature.
We wont know the actual level of impact these changes will have on businesses until they are rolled out throughout the UK. But as a Facebook marketer, if you don’t already you should start thinking about posting content aiming to promote interaction. Such as live video, or posts that encourage discussion. Without acknowledging these changes, there could be a reduction on the amount of organic page views, overall reach and post interaction you receive.
